Zen Masters have a way of expounding great truths in simple ways. Who doesn’t want to be happy? yet happiness remains elusive to most of us. The Zen wisdom below simplifies the secret to attain happiness in just a few words. Yes to be happy or not is entirely our choice as our happiness does not depend on anyone else. If we consider each moment as precious we will not allow it to be frittered away in bickering and negativity. For this we need to be intensely aware of every fleeting moment which we have and savor it.

So lets make it a point to enjoy the heavenly bliss of nature in all its bounties. In beautiful forests and serene lakes and by helping the needy. In the smiles and wonder of children and being in love with humanity.

What if after you die, God asks you “So, how was heaven?” πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

Hi my friend good to see you after so long πŸ˜€ . What is implied in the quote is that lets make every moment a happy and joyful one – that’s our heaven but if we destroy the precious moment with anger, hate or jealousy then that’s hell.

      What do you say?? πŸ˜‰

  9. Indeed very profound. Yes, happiness is very much within us and within our reach, but we go and search everywhere. In the end we come back and get the bliss in serenity of thoughts and when we are away from the cacophony of outside world. Also happiness is in the small things and little moments we face everyday but we look for in big things and wait for the big moment to arrive and we commit all the mistake of getting the elusive happiness in the wrong place. I get my happiness in the cup of coffee I get to drink in the morning, when I go for walk in the park and when I sit down to write and share my thoughts with lovely friends like you…it is all with us and within us, we can shift the gear which every direction we want to, rightly said so we can create heaven everyday provided we change our perspective and embrace life the way we have been gifted, it is a gift and we cannot question the type and cost of gift and we should cherish the gift not the giver and the nature…
Dilip, thanks so much for sharing such a nice perspective on happiness, it has lifted the soul and cheers indeed…

That is very wise advice. We do waste a lot of time and energy on ultimately insignificant things.

Oh yes you are right for living a happy and beautiful life no difficulty can ever be impossible. And true the efforts too are rewarding. Imagine how beautiful it would be if a day or a week passes by without arguments or anger. That itself would be a big reward πŸ˜€

So lets believe that to be happy in our lives is not negotiable πŸ˜€

Living in the moment is difficult but perhaps not for you Curt. Your ride across the State of Texas on a bicycle is a perfect example of being in the moment. Likewise doing any activity with passion and interest is another example of our presence in the moment.

      Thanks Curt I appreciate.

I do not concern myself with being happy, as happiness is only ever but a manifestation of transient feeling. Contentedness is the real prize, to my mind, though you may feel I am making pedantic distinctions. All best to you Dilip! πŸ™‚

Very true Raj it is a simple exercise if only we could overcome the distractions of our mind which does not allow us to be in the moment.
The choice is ours at every step. Thanks you and best regards.

I wish it were that easy! Sometimes, you want to… And then, there are these rigid people that you encounter and nothing seems to fall into place. But, I guess it doesn’t hurt to try. Got to let go of even the tiniest bit of ego to be able to persist and keep being happy. Thanks for the reminder.

    • dilipnaidu says:

Oh yes try we can try we must and then it becomes easy to handle the rigid people skilfully. But ego? Ah now that can become a quest of a lifetime. And surely it’s tough because it’s seemingly an uninteresting path. Yet if we follow it with a committment even the smallest progress emanates a sweet fragrance and makes us want more and more. The best part is we don’t have to become saints or priests but experiment it in our everyday activities whether at work or in play.

And so let’s say cheers to that πŸ˜ŽπŸ˜ƒ
