“Trees are the earth’s endless effort to speak to the listening heaven”! ~ Rabindranath Tagore
Come summer with temperatures soaring above 40 degree Celsius the “Golden Shower Tree” or the Amaltas dares the adverse conditions to bloom. The effect of the entire tree cloaked in yellow flowers delicately hanging downwards chandelier like pendants is sheer magic.
The rich yellow and golden flowers being showered from the tree top is truly a sight for the Gods. Thus inspiring Gerard Manley Hopkins to say ~ “The world is charged with the grandeur of God”
Wishing you my friends a bright sunshine and plenty of joy.
Cheers 🙂
A truly spectacular tree with a fitting name, Dilip. What a sight to behold. I would welcome such a specimen in my neck of the woods. I promise I would gaze upon it with an abundance of appreciation.
Cheers!

I didn’t know that this was called Golden shower. We use these flowers for our harvest festival Vishu which happens in April. I do agree that they look majestic! 😀 It doesn’t feel like Vishu if not for the konna trees lining up everywhere 🙂

I think you may be right. This beautiful tree with yellow flowers has different names Almatas, Golden Shower or Indian Laburnam. I believe it is declared as the State Flower of Kerala.
Cheers 🙂

Wonderful wishes you have bestowed Dilip.. The blossoms on our trees here at the moment are so full this year…. So I know the berries will be abundant in the autumn.. So Nature is making sure there is plenty for winter..

Always a pleasure to read your words Sue. Yes you yourself are very perceptive about nature and it’s wonderful ways keeping everything in balance. If only we could be more responsible to caring for Mother Earth we would not suffer the ravages of floods and drought.
Thank you and you too have a wonderful week-end.

I read your stirring poem in praise of the beautiful Amaltas. Great photography too I loved the contrast of the green leaves with the bright yellow. Thank you making my day.
The great Amaltas heals so many through its Ayurvedic properties that I am sure by now your tree too has rejuvenated itself with its own healing powers.
Thank you Namitaji and kind regards.

Hi Salva delighted to know that. In Europe this tree is named as Laburnum I wonder if the tree in your backyard is the same. But Golden Rain is a perfect name for this beauty. 🙂
Thanks for the input.

The golden shower tree blooms around the March-April period every year, coinciding with ‘Vishu’, the Kerala new year. Lord krishna’s idol is adorned with the yellow flower, known as ‘konnappu’ in Malayalam; keralites wake up to this auspicious sight at dawn on Vishu, mostly falling on 14th April, to usher in the new year, truly ‘charged with the grandeur of god’, as Hopkins would have it… Lovely post, dilip…

Oh that’s so wonderful to know that the beautiful Amaltash has a powerful religious connection with Lord Krishna.
So that accounts for its special appeal and the awe that it creates.
Thank you dear Raj and have a great week ahead 🙂
