The wisdom below tells us that ultimate bliss dawns on us only if we can free our-self from our ego, pretensions and the stored knowledge in our mind. It is our attitude of ‘I know’ that entraps us into a fixed mind-set and limits our ability to wonder, discover and be creative. The key to happiness is to ‘let go’ ourselves and do our tasks with humility and awareness.
“Music needs the hollowness of the flute; Letters, the blankness of the page; Light, the void called a window; Enlightenment, the absence of the self.” ~ Anon
Lets remember that wisdom tends to grow in proportion to oneβs awareness of oneβs ignorance. Awareness is the key to happiness π

Never could understand this Eastern religion’s absence of self. Why were we even born then? Why extract ourselves from the world when we were born into it for purpose. If it means the absence of selfishness replaced by selflessness then I get it. Deflate the ego and submit will to will of creator I understand.

Dear Carl true the question why we are are born and what is the purpose of life is not easily answered – at-least not by me π I guess each one may seek and find his or her purpose eventually.
However what you say in your last two lines is exactly what is enshrined in the quote. To lead a life with a joyous and calm mind we need to free our-self of our ego.
Many thanks and regards.

Dilip, I love the quote. I agree that we can get in the way of our own learning and growth. There is nothing to fear and much to gain with a blank page waiting to be filled.

Ego becomes goes (becomes less) with humility and belief that whatever status and distinction we achieve is not due to our acquired knowledge and cleverness but because the Almighty (or cosmic energy) allows it happen.
Letting ego go is not easy but definitely possible. Many good things happen like we get less angry, we don’t hate others and so on. In management jargon we develop a higher EI.
Many good wishes you to be happy and joyful in life. Kind regards.

Awareness is the key to happiness
Very right dear Sir. If one is aware of own ignorance, one finds new avenues of knowledge.
It is like a cave which has been dark & discarded for years. But some explorer dares to walk in & lights a match stick .The darkness vanishes ; doesnot matter how long it existed.
This is awareness of ignorance. Leads one to better life, peace & happiness.

This is the reason why we learn so much in so little time as a kid but hardly learn as an adult. Letting go of the “I know” attitude is the hardest thing in the world but the most rewarding as well. Thanks for helping to reinforce this thought π

It can be hard to free yourself of all of that, though. But when you look out at the stars, you can only think of how little we truly know, especially compared to all that is out there on a scale we cannot even begin to comprehend.
