Firstly I welcome you to my blog. I can imagine how satisfying and joyful it must’ve been to be with little kids at KG level. Its so beautiful if a teacher interacts with children with a positive attitude. Both can learn 🙂

Thank you and best wishes always 🙂

Kids definitely teach us a lot of things. I don’t have children of my own yet but from the time I have spent with my niece, who’s four years of age, I have appreciated a new lease of life. Her world is so innocent and carefree, and it’s one that also soothes the pains and strains of stress and life when I immerse myself in her little world.

    Thanks for sharing, Dilip.

Teaching in school is a noble profession. Most folk may forget college teachers but never their school teachers. It is in school that our teachers help in building our value systems.

Your observation that “teens have a very clear sense of right and wrong and of fair play and the value of honesty” is true.

Thanks Carl and have a nice day.

Children are ‘environment’ creators … The moment a child enters a space the child changes the environment… however morose we might have been the instant we see the child, our oxytocin levels go up and we ‘get’ rid of the ‘cortisol’ and hence we get back to being happy ….

Being with children is the best antidote to stress….caused by cortisol levels dripping in from the way we deal with the world…. we have framed the world with limitations, whereas all the child can see is abundance. the child doesn’t see that people are ‘back biting’ or out to get me …and even more important is that the child is ITSELF irrespective of the audience and we the ‘adults’ TRY to REFLECT what we think is the APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR for the AUDIENCE in front of us… such masking is an obvious distortion of who we are and hence a source of stress….

It is now proven through neuroscience that children are losing their child like qualities thanks to US ADULTS who give them the WRONG lessons of life through OUR actions which are CONTRADICTORY to what we ‘PREACH’…. praising a child for so called innate qualities makes the child focus on LOOKING SMART not BEING SMART and makes the child the adult who is insecure; who thinks smartness is limited – either one has it or not etc…

Neuroscience now has shown that praising behaviours that are appropriate – like what the child did – the act – makes them realise that it is behaviours that matter & that they can be learned through effort and that no one is BORN a genius – everyone needs to put in effort – and hence retains their child like enthusiasm and curiosity for learning … which is the critical factor that ADULTS ‘lose’ in their transition from childhood to adult hood….making them feel LIMITED and hence not abundance….The research by Dr Carol Dweck is worth a dekko…

So from environment creators, we end up as environment driven and then say we have GROWN up!! wow … talk of GROWTH….

no wonder the wise ‘wordsworth’ said ‘child is the father of the man’…… let us all become children to our ‘fathers’ within …. so we can ‘lead’ lives of abundance and joy ….just like little Tina….

    Cheers!

          dear sir,

Behavioral Economics suggests that we humans need to create TINA (no alternative situations) in order for us to DO something that we have been ‘procrastinating’ for too long… it is technically called the Ulysseus Contract – named after the Greek Hero Ulysseus who ‘tied himself to the mast of the ship’ so he could ‘control himself’ ….

TINA makes us DO. however TINA when served by life is stressful. whereas when TINA is self created it HELPS….

So the idea is how do we create the ‘urgency’ and ‘absolute necessity’ to ACT (through a TINA) in order to always have the child in us ALIVE….

so we can be like your granddaughter even when we are ‘grand parents’ ourselves!!

Quite a complex interpretation Sri but interesting. I liked the example of the Greek Hero Ulysses who “‘tied himself to the mast of the ship’ so he could ‘control himself ….”

To be childlike comes easy to people who are not self conscious and have no pretensions. That’s how the easy becomes difficult 🙂

          Thanks Sri and cheers 🙂

Nicely articulated Sriram. And Dr Dweck’s thoughts are valuable – a must read for all parents. True unlike adults a child never has any pretensions and lives life free of what others will think.

      Many thanks buddy 🙂
