You may recall that at times we look at others and envy them for their health, wealth or abilities. This sometimes leads us to a negative comparison making us slip into downward spiral of increasing negativity. So what does it mean? It means we are
being ungrateful and not aware of the blessings that the the Almighty has bestowed upon us.My blogger friend Gurvinder Singh shares a beautiful poem from his blog with us. This poem makes us reflect and realize to be grateful for what ‘we have’ and be at peace with ourselves even if we don’t have all the things that we desire.
Cheers π
It’s a wonderful poetry Dilip….so nicely composed …simple lines impregnated with deep and beautiful thoughts. The soldiers , yes, they keep vigilant so that we can sleep peacefully ..hats off to their spirit.
Please convey my regards to your friend for composing these lines π

Beautiful poem! We should always be thankful to the creator for all the blessings. It’s so true that if we look around we will realize how happy and blessed we are….as” someone somewhere is not happy as you”. One should learn to be contented with whatever we have in life.

Dear Sir,
I agree completely with you that envy is a negative feeling/emotion, and it is a beautiful poem Mr. Singh wrote to console the depressed.
However, my take on envy is different. I believe that envy/jealousy creates a sense of competition between humans, and motivates a person to chase his goals with zeal. I think envy is the third most important feeling, the first two being desire and fear which has driven our civilization so ahead of all other animals living on Earth.
I think rather than being depressed or ‘blue’, a person should try to convert the negative energy into positive enthusiasm to reach new heights and reap success in his life … π
Take care.
With regards,
Dheeman

Dear Sir,
Heartfelt thanks to you and Mr. Gurvinder Singh for sharing that beautiful poem.
When we feel so blue and the green-eyed monster rears its ugly head as a result of us feeling that we have failed in “Keeping up with the Joneses”, it is time to think of Mr. Singh’s poem and this one too:
An “Italian philosophy” poem: ‘
‘Count your garden by the flowers,
Never by the leaves that fall.
Count your days by golden hours,
Don’t remember clouds at all.
Count your nights by stars, not shadows,
Count your life with smiles, not tears.
And with joy on every birthday,
Count your age by friends, not years. ‘
Thanks and regards,
Geetha

Each time we look at others who seem to be happier than us..we are distancing ourselves from reality..Shakespeare said..”All that glisters is not gold….many a man his life hath sold…but my outward to behold…..”..happiness is a felt state of the mind, body and soul…i saw Barfi a few days ago…and experienced joy and happiness in its purest and most unadulterated form..friends life is beautiful and each day is a special gift.. smile with gratitude when you see others happy and be assured you’ll be the reason for someone else’s smile….. π
