Today is our dearest Leo’s birth anniversary. Leo was our strong, handsome and lovable GSD (German Shepherd Dog). He was the center of love and affection of our family and lived with us for 13 good years. Exercising him daily kept me fit too and so also my wife and children. We always remember him so fondly for his noble character and loving nature. Amazingly he had a different but

special relationship with each of us. Whenever we hear the Jim Reeves song – ‘Old Tige’ we can’t help remembering our Leo with nostalgia and the sentiment – there is no love stronger than of a dearly loved pet  Leo passed away in the year 1998.

Leo was a Purebred registered with the Kennel Club of India KCI. Young Leo’s regular training started when he was 8 months old. We had a qualified Trainer for Leo and he trained me too for ‘show-handling’ Leo and to keep him fit and fine. He participated in some prestigious Dog shows like the Sanjay Memorial in Delhi and at Pune and won a few awards too.

With Trainer and judges at the show!

At one of the Dog shows Leo had very tough competition and he did not make it for an award. But the international judge an Australian was encouraging when he said “Leo is a glamorous dog he needs to be exercised more”. Yes he was right there had been a gap in Leo’s exercise routine as I was away on active duty.

Cheers and have a lovely Sunday!

I had no idea German Sheperds were popular in India. They are also called police dogs here as they are used for various things by the police department. He clearly was a very special pet and this was a lovely tribute Dilip!

Oh yes GSD’s are doing very well here too as both in the Army and Police. I have seen these dogs (also Retrievers) doing real tough and risky tasks with intelligence. Thanks & regards!

Leo looks regal! There is nothing to match the unconditional love of a pet or a baby. Am sorry about your loss. Am glad that Leo gave you and your family 13 years of unadulterated joy by his mere presence in your life.
